Article: Surviving the Photo Shoot

For a lot of people, photos can be one of the worse part of one’s wedding, especially for those who consider themselves as being “non photogenic”.

But, at the end of the day, everyone loves the photos no matter what and every bridal couple wants taken done to ensure the day remains remembered.

You want to look good in your photos – who doesn’t? Following these easy steps to make sure you look radiant and have a hassle-free photo shoot:
  • As the bride you want to look good in your photos. Make sure you have had a trial run with your makeup artist to make sure you are happy with your makeup before the big day. Possibly try making sure you have a few photos taken with a small digital camera on your makeup trial to test how you look in photos. This will ensure you know what to expect from your photos on the big day.
  • Make sure you have a list prepared for your photographer so he / she know what photos you want. Also, this will help you feel more organised and also know what is still coming at any given time during your photo shoot. See our article on Photographs for your Wedding.
  • Make sure you have a second plan in case the weather isn't good. The last thing you need to stress about is another location as stress and worry can easily be reflected in your photos. So, make sure you have a "Plan B" in case it's too windy, it's raining, the original location doesn't work out for some reason, etc.
  • Make sure that you have tissues available or even wet wipes to assist with tears or running mascara (weddings can be an emotional day!) and to wipe off any sweating / glowing that may be taking place.
  • Ask your bridesmaids or grooms to keep a bottle of water close by so you can sip water as you need to avoid getting dehydrated. If you are planning on having a large number of photos taken, between the length of time it takes and all the running around to get the necessary photos done, you may find yourself feeling dehydrated. You could also be left feeling dehydrated if you are lucky enough to have a beautiful HOT day. So, make sure to have water close by in case you are feeling a little dehydrated or need to freshen up.
  • Along with the water, make sure you are stocked up on little goodies to eat to keep the sugar levels in check e.g. peanuts and raisins, dried fruit, biltong, etc.
  • Make sure you have your lipstick stuck away somewhere close by in a handbag or somewhere safe in case you need to top up. All the kissing, smiling and talking can cause the lipstick to fade, so touch ups are always a good idea. Don't forget a MIRROR!
  • Stay calm no matter what! There are bound to be times when things don't go totally according to plan, but that's what makes your wedding day memorable. So, just breathe deeply and enjoy the process. Don't panic if someone goes missing or something goes wrong and you can't fit in that extra photo - remember, you will look beautiful and everything will work out for the best.
  • And, last but not least - REMEMBER TO SMILE!
